The Process

Our website will be open for Solo Ori and Aparima registration on Monday, May 24, 2021, at 2 pm Pacific Time and run through Monday June 21st, 2021 at midnight. NO EXCEPTIONS. THANK YOU FOR RESPECTING THE IMPORTANCE OF OUR PRODUCTION TIME AND QUALITY. If full capacity of 400 is reached before June 21, applications will be closed with an announcement on our website and all social media platforms. Music will be distributed in a confirmation email after you complete the application process.

  • Entry fees for Heiva San Diego Virtual is $40.00
  • Solo will be Beginner/Intermediate and Advance divisions. Each division will have six (6) age categories (See age category on the website). Finalist will be chosen for a second round from both divisions. 
  • Aparima will consist of one dancer only. There will be two divisions: Junior (6-17) and Senior (18 & up). Finalist will be chosen for a second round from both divisions. 
  • When you register you will be asked to pay your participation fee and provide all necessary information. Once you are registered you will be given the BEATS(PEHE)/APARIMA SONG. Songs will be assigned by age category in both solo and aparima competition.
  • You will choreograph your solo or Aparima to the provided music and upload your video to the link provided in the confirmation email by the deadline of Thursday, July 1st at midnight. Instructions on video recording will be posted on our website and all social media platforms. 
  • The prelims rounds for Aparima will be shown on Livestream (YouTube and Facebook) on Friday August 13, 2021. Solo Beginner/Intermediate Division will be live-streamed on Saturday, August 14, 2021. Solo Advance Division will be live-streamed on Sunday, August 15, 2021. All Livestream’s will start at 6 pm Pacific Time and the links will be posted on our website and social media platforms. 
  • The Finalists will be announced immediately after each livestream and posted on website. A minimum of 5 finalists will be chosen from each division. Female and Male will not be judged separately. All dancers will be judged on a point system against one another, irrelevant to Vahine or Tane. The FINALS music will be distributed immediately after announcements. Solo and Aparima Finalist will be given a Tumu Parau to distinguish your ability, depth, knowledge, and creativity as a dancer. The Finals video must be submitted no later than Saturday, August 21, 2021 at midnight Pacific Time. 
  • The final round will be Live-streamed on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at 6 pm Pacific Time (YouTube and Facebook). The Overall winners will be announced immediately and broadcasted on HSD website and social media platforms.  
  • One Overall Solo Ori dancer from the Junior (18 and up) and the Senior (19 & up) of the Beginner and Advance Division will win a Heiva San Diego cash prize.
  • In addition EACH of our finalists will receive a Heiva San Diego certifications. We have received preliminary inquiries from soloists and strongly encourage all participants to register early to ensure participation. Mauruuru roa!

Soloists must participate within their age category with a level from Beginner/Intermediate to Advanced. 

Age must be as of July 17, 2021.

  • VIDEOS NEED TO BE CAPTURED IN LANDSCAPE MODE AND NOT IN PORTRAIT MODE. VIDEOS MUST BE RECORDED AT 1080P. PLEASE BE SURE DANCER IS VISIBLE AT ALL TIMES FROM HEAD TO TOE. IF YOU NEED ASSISTANCE PLEASE REFER TO OUR VIDEO TITLED, “HOW TO SHOOT MY VIRTUAL SOLO”
  • MINIMIZE BACKGROUND ITEMS  
  • NO BACKLIGHTING OR GLARE
  • NO OTHER INDIVIDUALS SHOULD BE IN THE VIDEO EXCEPT THE DANCER
  • HAS TO HAVE A CLEAR VISION OF THE DANCER. HANDS AND FEET SHOULD NOT BE CUT FROM THE FRAME DURING THE DANCE
  • SOLO BEAT IS ASSIGNED TO SPECIFIC AGE CATEGORIES.
  • NO CUTTING. NO EDITING. NO FILTER. THE FRAME CANNOT BE MOVED THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE RECORDING
  • **IMPORTANT** ONCE YOU START RECORDING PLEASE ALLOW 4-6 SECONDS BEFORE YOU START MUSIC AND ALLOW 4-6 SECONDS AFTER MUSIC STOPS BEFORE YOU END RECORDING
  • WHEN SUBMITTING YOUR VIDEO PLEASE MAKE SURE TO COMPLETE ALL THE INFORMATION REQUESTED ON THE ONLINE VIDEO SUBMISSION FORM. VIDEO SUBMISSIONS THAT DO NOT COMPLY WITH OUR GUIDANCE WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR ADVANCING INTO THE FINAL ROUND. PLEASE FOLLOW THE GUIDELINE
  • COSTUME CRITERIA: WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO BE CREATIVE:

                        -VAHINE MUST WEAR PLAIN PAREO TIED TO THE SIDE OF THE HIP / NO HIP ADORNMENTS OR HAND-HELD ITEMS ARE ALLOWED

                        -TANE MUST WEAR A PLAIN OR POLYNESIAN PRINT, TIHERE OR MARO STYLE PAREO / NO HIP ADORNMENTS OR HAND-HELD ITEMS ARE ALLOWED

Awards / Prizes

One Overall Solo Ori dancer from the Junior (18 and up) and the Senior (19 & up) of the Advance Division will win a Heiva San Diego t-shirt and cash prize.

  • Each Overall Winner (Beginner/Intermediate and Advanced) will receive a cash prize.
  • Each Finalist wins a free General Admission to Heiva San Diego 2022.
  • Each Participant receives a Certificate of Participation on Behalf of Reva Tahiti Productions.
